Traffic Tip # 13

Hold a Contest

A contest can be a lot of work to manage, but the resulting traffic rewards may be worth it. Many webmasters hold several contests per year simply to draw in the repeat traffic from those looking to re-enter.

The great thing about contests is that you will be able to collect the email addresses of anyone that enters. This will provide you with multiple opportunities to communicate with your participants.

You can even send them an email thanking them for entering, and then when the contest is over, you can send them another email reporting the winner. Off-course these are great opportunities to promote your site.

You may want to create a separate mailing list for the participants so that you can contact them to announce future contests and promotions.

Don't be Cheap

Whatever you do, make sure that the prize has some kind of a value to your visitors. Don't insult them by offering something low in quality or products that can easily be obtained for free on their own.

Lets say if your website is related to webmasters, then a good prize would be a month free advertising on your homepage.

Make it easy

Don't draw up any complicated rules for your visitors, all they should know is the prize and submit their email address, name and web address.
